About Santa Monica CyberDragons

We are CyberDragons, a middle school robotics club in Santa Monica, California. The club was first founded in 2015, and we have competed in all of the FIRST Tech challenges but one since then. As a middle school team composed of mainly 8th graders in the past, practically everyone on our team are new to the FIRST Tech Challenge this year. This created a steep learning curve for us but we were up to the challenge. In fact, we were so up to the challenge that we decided to build not just one robot for competition, but two, King Bob (20799) and Marvinette (9887). We saw a direct benefit to the students, two robots meant more hands-on experience for all.

Marvinette & King Bob Get a Critical Update

One of our favorite things about the competitive meets in our local league is what we learn about our robots and how they perform when it matters.  Often when we practice, we are running one robot or at maximum two, but usually we're not able to have four teams and a...

King Bob Borrows A Claw from Petunia

Early in the FIRST Tech (FTC) season, our team began the process of understanding what obstacles we'd have to overcome in the new 2022-2023 season's PowerPlay challenge by driving one of last year's robots, Petunia (20799) on the new playing field.  We updated our...

Our Robots

Team 9887 “Marvinette”

Marvinette is the robot built by our CyberDragons Team 9887 this year.  There is little resemblance to last year’s 9887 robot, Bob due to the gameplay differences in this year’s PowerPlay competition.  You’ll be pleased to know that Bob, like Petunia, lives on and is out there sharing the joy of robotics with others.  Follow the link below to learn more about Marvinette and what we have in store for her!

Team 20799 “King Bob”

King Bob is the robot built by our CyberDragons Team 20799 this year.  While last year’s 20799 robot, Petunia has retired from competition, her claw intake has been revised to suit this year’s PowerPlay competition and it’s been doing very well for the team.  Follow the link below to learn more about King Bob and what’s coming down the road for his build!

Our Sponsors (2022-2023 Season)

Interested in a demonstration of our Robots?

We’re always looking for opportunities to share our experiences and what we’ve been working on with our community.  It gives us a chance to inspire others while also giving our Team a chance to work on our public speaking and engagement.  Just another skill we’re learning in the process of competing in the FIRST Tech Challenge!
